English rock/pop and medieval music singer-songwriter Sting (birth name Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner) was born on October 2, 1951, in Wallsend, England. Prior to starting his solo career, he was the principal songwriter, lead singer and bassist of the rock music band The Police. In 1985, Sting released his breakthrough debut album, The Dream of the Blue Turtles, which you may download in mp3 from our site. It included the hit single "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free". Within a year, it reached Triple Platinum. His follow-up album, …Nothing Like the Sun, was released in 1987. The title comes from Shakespeare's Sonnet #130 ("My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun"), which Sting used in the song "Sister Moon". As a solo musician and member of The Police, Sting has received sixteen Grammy Awards for his works, receiving his first Grammy for Best Rock Instrumental Performance in 1981, and receiving an Oscar nomination for best song.
