Vivaldi, Antonio

Antonio Lucio Vivaldi, known as Antonio Vivaldi (March 4, 1678 – July 28, 1741) was a baroque composer and Venetian priest that’s why he had a moniker il Prete Rosso (Red Priest). He was born and raised in Venice and was a virtuoso violinist as well. Since his childhood he had problems with his health, probably a form of asthma. But this didn’t prevent him of learning to play violin and to compose music, though he couldn’t play wind instruments. At the age of 25, in 1703 he became a priest and also a master of violin. As opera was the most popular genre at that time, it was an easy way for composer to gain the popularity and Vivaldi went to Venice becoming a theater impresario. But his works weren’t so popular among the public. In his middle years he wrote the most popular of his works Four Seasons, four violin concertos depicting natural scenes in music.
