Umberto, Eco

Umberto Eco is an Italian semiotician, philosopher, literary critic, medievalist and novelist, born on January 5, 1932 in Alessandria, Piedmont, Kingdom of Italy. His father wanted him to become a lawyer but Umberto studied Medieval philosophy and literature and successfully graduated from University of Turin. Later he was working on television, for one of the biggest Italian newspaper L’Espresso, he taught aesthetics and culture theory in Universities of Milan, Florence and Turin. He is married to German art teacher Renata Ramge, they have a daughter and a son. As a novelist, Eco is known for such his works as The name of the Rose (his most popular work), Foucault's Pendulum, The Island of the Day Before, Baudolino, The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana.
