Tito Puente Sr., birth name Ernesto Antonio Puente Jr., born on April 20, 1923 in Harlem, New York, the United States and died on May 31, 2000 in New York, the United States. He is a famous American musician and one of the most prominent artists in such genres like Latin American music, mambo, salsa and Latin jazz. He was called El Rey del timbal (King of Timbal) and El Rey de la música latina (King of the Latin music) for his outstanding contribution to the music. He popularized Afro-Cuband and Carribean rythms like mambo, son and cha-cha-cha. Durign his career, he has received five Grammy Awards for his albums A Tribute to Benny Moré, On Broadway, Mambo Diablo, and Goza Mi Timbal.
