Therion is a Swedish symphonic metal and early death metal band coming from Upplands Väsby, Sweden. The band was founded in 1987 by Christofer Johnsson. The word “therion” means “beast” in Greek. The band began its career as a death metal outfit; however, they changed their style incorporating classical and choral elements. The group has become of the few bands that popularized symphonic metal genre and influenced a lot on its development. The current band members are Christofer Johnsson - guitar, keyboards, formerly vocals, Nalle "Grizzly" Påhlsson – bass guitar, Johan Koleberg – drums and Thomas Vikström – vocals, lyrics. The band has reached significant popularity around Europe, they tour a lot, sometimes with symphonic orchestra and choir. They have released 13 studio albums. The next one is planned for 2010.
