American hard rock and heavy metal guitarist and vocalist Ted Nugent (birth name Theodore Anthony "Ted" Nugent) was born on December 13, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan. He was known throughout his early career in the 1970s for using Fender amps, a large part of his signature sound, and is now also famous for playing the semi-hollow Gibson Byrdland. Gibson Guitar Corporation has developed a model named for him. He originally became famous as the lead guitarist of The Amboy Dukes. He quickly gained popularity in 1975 with his breakthrough debut album, Ted Nugent, which yielded two number one hits, "Hey Baby" and "Stranglehold". It became his first multi-platinum album.
