Tankard is a German thrash metal band formed in Frankfurt am Main in 1982. The band was formed by classmates Andreas Geremia, Axel Katzmann and Frank Thorwarth. The current line-up composes of Andreas Geremia – vocals, Andreas Gutjahr – guitar, Frank Thorwarth – bass, and Olaf Zissel – drums. The band quickly found their space on the music scene and began creating speed metal songs praising the alcohol. Because of such lyrics, it was said that the band created their own genre “alcoholic-metal”. Tankard liked that and they call themselves “Kings of Beer”. The band began playing in their school and then quickly gained the local popularity. Later, the band’s popularity spread out of the Germany and they were welcomed in Bulgaria and in Turkey.
