t.A.T.u. is a Russian pop, dance, electronic and rock duo formed in Moscow, Russia in 1999. The duo was formed by producer Ivan Shapovalov who auditioned girls for his new project. Lena Katina and Yulia Volkova were recruited. The duo has become the biggest Eastern European music export and blown up the world show business. Their debut Russian album 200 Po Vstrechnoy was released in 2001 and after the smashing success in their home country, the duo recorded the English album 200 km/h in the Wrong Lane. The album became number one in Russia, Mexico, Japan and Austria. It peaked at number 12 on the UK Albums chart and at number 13 in the US.
