Squirrel Nut Zippers

The Squirrel Nut Zipper are a band from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, the United States. They were formed in 1993 and the current line-up composes of James "Jimbo" Mathus, Katharine Whalen, Chris Phillips, Stu Cole, Je Widenhouse, Will Dawson, Tim Kendt and Laura McIndoe. Their sound is difficult to categorize, the band uses such instruments like banjo, ukulele, saxophone, trombone and the traditional guitars, drums, and bass. The style can be called swing revival or gypsy jazz. They were influenced by many different artists including Django Reinhardt, Cab Calloway, Tom Waits and others. They performed at the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996, at the President Clinton’s second inauguration and at other important events.
