Spearhead

American hip hop, funk, reggae and jazz band Spearhead from Oakland, California, was formed in 1992. The group's current line-up comprises Carl Young, Michael Franti and a few studio musicians. Originally, the act was founded by American reggae poet, musician, and composer Michael Franti. The band's music style is considered as a combination of funk, reggae, jazz, folk with elements of rock and metal sounds. In the early 1990s, they signed a contract with Capitol Records and started recording their debut album, Home, which was released in 1994. They achieved mainstream success in the late 1990s with their second album, Chocolate Supa Highway, which produced several singles such as "Why Oh Why", "Chocolate Supa Highway", "Keep Me Lifted" and "Food for the Masses".
