Soul Coughing

Soul Coughing was an American alternative rock band formed in New York City, New York in 1992. The band’s members were Mike Doughty (founder), Mark De Gli Antoni (sampler player), Sebastian Steinberg (upright bass), and Yuval Gabay (drums). During their career, the band has released three studio albums. The debut one Ruby Vroom came out in 1994. The album was critically acclaimed. For example, Allmusic gives it 4,5 stars out of 5 and Rolling Stone ranked it 4 out 5. The album is a mixture of samples (The Andrews Sisters, The Roches, Raymond Scott's "Powerhouse", Toots & the Maytals and others) with jazzy upright bass. The last album El Oso was more popular, peaking at number 49. The band broke up in 2000.
