Simply Red are an English blue-eyed soul/rock band from Manchester, England. It was formed in 1985 by Mick Hucknall. His previous band The Frantic Elevators, which had been active for about 7 years, split and he decided to create a new one. He teamed up with manager Elliott Rashman and together they recruited local musicians and assembled a full size band. The band got partly Hucknall’s nickname “Red” because of the color of his hair. The band has released 10 studio albums, 4 compilation albums, one extended play and 45 singles. The band reached the commercial success quickly with their debut album Picture Book (1985) and continued releasing Platinum albums throughout the 1990s and the beginning of 2000s.
