Peter Maffay, birth name Peter Alexander Makkay was born on August 30, 1949 in Braşov, Romania (Kronstadt in German). He is half-German, half-Hungarian and immigrated with his family in Germany. He began his music career in 1969 with his single “Du” The single established his name on the German music scene. The breakthrough to greater success happened in 1979 when he released his album Steppenwolf. The album oversold all other records and made Maffay one of the leading German acts of his era.
