Peter Seeger, better known as Pete Seeger, was born on May 3, 1919 in New York, New York, the United States. He is an American folk singer-songwriter and activist, one of the most prominent figures in American folk music. During his long career, he has been recognized in many ways, receiving three Grammy Awards including Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, The National Medal of Arts, Kennedy Center Lifetime Achievement Honor and many others. He is also inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Seeger’s career successfully began in the band The Weavers. Their songs were extremely popular, especially “Goodbye, Irene” which topped the charts for 13 weeks. His popularity was stopped due to his Communist views, however, he came back in the music industry at the end of 1950s with such hits like «Where Have All the Flowers Gone?», «If I Had a Hammer (The Hammer Song)», «Turn, Turn, Turn!» and «We Shall Overcome».
