Paco de Lucia, birth name Francisco Sánchez Gómez is a Spanish composer and guitarist born on December 21, 1947 in Algeciras, Cádiz, Spain. He was born in a musical family – his father Antonio Sanchez was flamenco guitarist and Paco quickly learned how to play guitar. His first public performance was at the age of 11. Today Paco de Lucia is recognized as flamenco guitar virtuoso and one of the leaders of Modern flamenco style. He is famous not only in his home country but abroad as well. De Lucía, John McLaughlin, and Larry Coryell formed “The Guitar Trio” and successfully toured in Europe. He also had his own band Paco de Lucia Sextet (including his brothers Ramon and Pepe).
