Malian Wassoulou singer, songwriter and musician Oumou Sangare was born on February 25, 1968, in Bamako, Mali. At the age of five, she began singing and quickly gained popularity in her home town. In the early 1980s, she joined the Djoliba band and they went on tour. Later, she collaborated with a great maestro of Malian music Amadou Ba Guindo. She achieved mainstream success in 1993 with her breakthrough album, Ko Sira, which yielded the singles such as "Kayini Wura (Evening Greeting)", "Sigi Kuruni (Advice to a New Bride)", "Mani Djindala (The Young Adventurer)", "Saa Magni", "Dugu Kamelemba (The Womanizer)" and "Bi Furu (Modern Marriage)".
