Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen

Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen (May 27, 1946 – April 19, 2005) was a hard bop and jazz bassist from Osted, Denmark. When he was 14, he began his music career with the formation of Jazzkvintet 60 band. At the age of 24, he performed with several famous American jazzmen such as Ben Webster, Bill Evans, Bud Powell, Count Basie, Dexter Gordon, Dizzy Gillespie and Sonny Rollins. In the early 1970s, he moved the US and successfully joined The Oscar Peterson Trio. During this time, he collaborated with some artists including Anthony Braxton, Albert Ayler, and Archie Shepp. He achieved mainstream success in the early 1970s with the album, Chops, which produced the hit singles such as "Have You Met Miss Jones?", "Oleo", "Come Rain or Come Shine", "Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars" and "Yardbird Suite".
