Nena

Nena, birth name Gabriele Susanne Kerner is a German musician and singer-songwriter born on March 24, 1960 in Hagen, North Rhine-Westphalia, West Germany. She is also an actress and used to sing in the group Nena that was active from 1981 to 1987. When the group broke up, she pursued a solo career. Her music style can be described as Neue Deutsche Welle, New Wave, synthpop, and pop. Nena reached the international success in 1983 (being part of the group) when they released their debut album Nena. The album spawned two singles "Leuchtturm" and "99 Luftballons". The latter became a hit number one in Germany in 1983. The English version “99 Red Balloons” hit number one on the UK singles chart and the original German version hit number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
