Reinhard Friedrich Michael Mey, better known as Reinhard Mey is a German musician and singer-songwriter born on December 21, 1942 in Berlin, Germany. He is known as Frederik Mey in France. He was interested in music since his childhood and learnt how to play piano and guitar and self-taught to play trumpet. In 1965 he was offered to play at Liedermacher festival at Waldeck Castle. He agreed and this performance led to his first recording contract. He released his debut album Ich wollte wie Orpheus singen in 1967 and the last album Mairegen came out in 2010. During his career, he earned several awards and honors like Prix International de la Chanson française, Verdienstkreuz am Bande (Cross of Merit on ribbon) and Verdienstkreuz 1.
