Libertines

The Libertines are an English rock band formed in London, the UK in 1997. The band was founded by Carl Barât (vocals/lead guitar) and Pete Doherty (vocals/rhythm guitar). The other two members are John Hassall (bass) and Gary Powell (drums). The band’s style can be describes as post-punk revival, garage rock revival and indie rock. The band reached critical acclaim but despite their success, the band broke up mainly because of Doherty’s addiction to crack cocaine and heroin. The band split in 2004. During their career, the band has released two studio albums, one compilation album, four extended plays and six singles. Their debut album Up the Bracket was released in 2002. It was certified Gold and entered the charts in the UK, France, Japan and Sweden. Their follow-up and last album The Libertines became the breakthrough to the mainstream success.
