Kool Keith, birth name Keith Matthew Thornton is an American rapper, from the Bronx, New York. Thornton is a founding member of the new-school formation Ultramagnetic MCs. However, he is much better known as a solo rapper. He is known under the moniker Dr. Octagon as well. His early career with Ultramagnetic MCs was not successful taking into account that during that time Thornton was a patient in a psychiatric hospital where he was treated for depression. His band broke up in 1994 and this allowed him to embark on solo career. During that time, he was released his records under the name Dr. Octagon. The name “Kool Keith” appeared in 1997 when he released the album Sex Style. During his career, Thornton released quite a number of albums, releasing solo albums, instrumentation, albums, compilations and collaborative albums.
