Keith Richards

English rhythm and blues, rock and roll, blues and reggae singer, songwriter and guitarist Keith Richards was born on 18 December 1943, in Dartford, Kent, England. His mother introduced him to the music of Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington, and bought him his first guitar, a Rosetti acoustic, for seven pounds. His first guitar hero was Scotty Moore. He attended Wentworth Primary School, as did Mick Jagger. They knew each other as schoolboys, and lived in the same neighbourhood until his family moved to another part of Dartford in 1954. Later, he attended Dartford Technical School, where choirmaster Jake Clair noticed his singing voice and recruited him into the school choir. As one of a trio of boy sopranos Richards sang at Westminster Abbey in front of Queen Elizabeth II, an experience that he has called his "first taste of show biz". He achieved success in 1988 with his debut album, Talk Is Cheap, which yielded the number one hit singles, "Take It So Hard".
