Karen Carpenter

Karen Anne Carpenter, better known as Karen Carpenter was born on March 2, 1950 in New Haven, Connecticut and died on February 4, 1983 in Los Angeles, California. She was an American singer and drummer. She was a skilled drummer but the majority remembers her for her vocal talent. She had a brother Richard and together they began recordings in 1965. They and Richard’s college friend Wes Jacobs formed The Richard Carpenter Trio. Karen, Richard and some other musicians performed together under the moniker Spectrum as well. Finally, the Carpenters were signed and their 1970s album spawned two massive hits "(They Long to Be) Close to You" and "We've Only Just Begun."
