John McLaughlin, known also as Mahavishnu John McLaughlin is an English jazz fusion guitarist and composer born on January 4, 1942 in Doncaster, England. He is known best of all for his recordings with Miles Davis – In a Silent Way and Bitches Brew. Also, he is the founder of the band The Mahavishnu Orchestra that was one of the most popular jazz rock acts during the 1970s. He also founded an acoustic project Shakti, considered to pioneer such genre as “world music” and he is a member of the acoustic trio along with Paco de Lucia and Al di Meola. He plays guitar in different genres like flamenco, Indian classical music, fusion, western classical music and others. The Rolling Stone magazine included him in the list of 100 Greatest Guitarists of all time. His last album is Floating Point (2008).
