Dimmu Borgir is a Norwegian symphonic black metal band, formed in Oslo, Norway in 1993. This is one of few bands in its genre who could reach commercial success not only among the fans of black metal but beyond. The band’s name comes from the Icelandic word “dimmuborgir” meaning “dark fortress”. This is sightseeing in Iceland, which is considered to be gates to the underworld according to the legend. The band’s line-up composes of Shagrath(Stian Tomt Thoresen, vocals), Silenoz (Sven Atle Kopperud, guitar, vocals), Galder (Thomas Rune Andersen, guitar) and of Daray (Dariusz Brzozowski, drums). During its career, the band has released eight studio albums. The last band’s album In Sorte Diaboli was released in 2007.
