Devendra Banhart

Devendra Banhart is an American singer-songwriter and visual artist born on May 30, 1981 in Houston, Texas, the United States. His style can be described as New Weird America genre, which incorporates elements from psych folk, avant-folk, freak folk, Lo-Fi and alternative folk. His name is a synonym of God Indra, Hindu God of rain and thunder. He was raised by his mother in Caracas, Venezuela, but they moved back to the USA when Banhart was a teenager. He studied in San Francisco Art School but left his studies and moved to Paris, France. There he opened for indie rock bands but returned to the States soon. Banhart was discovered by Michael Gira who signed him to his label Young God Records. During his career, he has released seven studio albums.
