Dar Williams

American folk, folk-pop and alternative country music singer, songwriter and guitarist Dar Williams (birth name Dorothy Snowden Williams) was born on April 19, 1967, in Mount Kisco, New York, US. In the early 1990s, she moved to Boston to start a career in theater. In the beginning, she worked as a stage manager of the Opera Company. Later, she began writing music and songs. Several years later, she moved to Northampton, Massachusetts to develop her musical skills. There she met a folk singer and songwriter Joan Baez, who helped her to emerge on the American folk music scene. In the mid-1990, she released her breakthrough debut album, The Honesty Room, which produced several singles such as "When I Was a Boy", "Alleluia", "Great Unknown", "When Sal's Burned Down" and "Babysitter's Here".
