American alternative rock band Black Lab from Berkeley, California, was formed in 1995. The band comprises Paul Durham (lead vocals, guitar, Pro Tools), Andy Ellis (guitar, keyboards, programming) and Brian Paturalski. Paul Durham's singing career began when he was offered a spot singing in a local youth choir. After graduating from Oberlin College, Durham supported himself as a substitute teacher in the San Francisco Bay Area while fronting his acoustic band. In 1995, he disbanded this band. And in 1996, he signed to Geffen Records after attracting attention from a number of labels, and hired bassist Geoff Stanfield, guitarist Michael Belfer and drummer Bryan Head to form Black Lab. They achieved mainstream success in 2005 with their breakthrough album, See the Sun, which produced several singles such as "Lonely Boy", "Perfect Girl", "Ecstasy", "Tell Me Why", "Without You" and "Dream in Color".
