Beverly Sills

Beverly Sills was a Jewish-American operatic soprano singer born on May 25, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York, the United States and died on July 2, 2003. Her real name was Belle Miriam Silverman and she was born to Sonia Markovna and Morris Silverman, Jewish immigrants from Odessa and Bucharest. During her childhood, she was speaking Yiddish, Russian, Romanian, English and French. She has become an international opera star. She rose to fame performing Cleopatra in the Hendel’s opera Giulio Cesare which was revived by New York City Opera. She continued performing in NYCO and sang parties of Queen of Shemakha in Rimsky-Korsakov's The Golden Cockerel, of Suor Angelica, Giorgetta, and Lauretta in Puccini's trilogy Il trittico and some others.
