Bathory was a Swedish heavy metal band formed in Stockholm, Sweden in 1983. The band was founded by seventeen-year old guitarist Quorthon. Other former members of the band are Freddan (Fredrick Hanoi) - bass guitar, Jonas Åkerlund (Vans McBurger) – drums, Vvornth – drums, Kothaar - bass guitar and The Animal (Björn Kristensen) – vocals. The band was named after Hungarian Countess Elizabeth Bathory which was famous for her incredible cruelty. The band is considered to be a legendary one as they contributed a lot to the development of such genres like black metal and Viking metal. The band ceased to exist in 2004 when the band’s leader Quorthon was found dead in his apartment. The band has released quite a number of albums and was signed to Black Mark productions.
