Awesome New Republic

American dance pop and indie rock band Awesome New Republic from Miami, Florida, was formed in 2003. The band's current line-up comprises Michael John Hancock and Brian Robertson. They met each other while their studying at the University of Miami. Originally, the band performed under the stage name Empirical Mile. During this time, the act consisted of five members. Empirical Mile was active only several years. In 2004, "MJ" and "B-Rob" decided to perform as a duo. They emerged on the American pop rock scene with their debut and self-released album, Courageous. This record earned a Sutro label contract for the band. They achieved mainstream success in early 2009 with their breakthrough album, Rational Geographic Volume I, which produced several singles such as "National Insecurity", "Rotary Clone", "Birthday" and Dances When".
