Arturo Sandoval

Arturo Sandoval is a Cuban jazz trumpeter and pianist, born on November 6, 1949 in Artemisa, Cuba. He began his career in 1977 and he is still popular reaching the worldwide fame. Now, he resides in the United States. During his tour with Dizzy Gillespie, he defected to the United States and has become a naturalized citizen. He began playing music at the age of 12 and tried many different instruments before choosing trumpet. He was influenced by such musicians like Charlie Parker, Clifford Brown, and Dizzy Gillespie who was his idol. He played both Latin and classical jazz. He played for BBC symphony orchestra and for Leningrad Symphony (ex-USSR). His popularity goes beyond jazz and the story of his life has become the base for a TV film For Love or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story.
