Arcturus

Arcturus was a Norwegian avant-garde metal band formed in Olso, Norway in 1987 and disbanded in 2007. The band was founded under the name Mortem. The first line-up composed of Marius Vold (bass guitar and vocals), Steinar Sverd Johnsen (keayboards, guitar) and Hellhammer on drums. Mortem played a death metal music and later evolved in what is known as Arcturus. Their music differed a lot from Mortem’s sound incorporating different elements from black metal, classical music, pop music and trip hop. All that can be called avant-garde metal. As Mortem, the band has released one demo and one extended play, while being Arcturus, they released four full-length albums, three extended plays and two compilation albums.
