Alwyn Lopez Jarreau, better known as Al Jarreau is an American jazz, pop, soul and funk singer, born on March 12, 1940 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States. He was raised in a musical family that sang all together in the church. His father was a minister in the church and his mother was a church pianist. He began his recording career in 1975 releasing an acclaimed debut album We Got By. He was noted by Warner Bros. Records, was signed by them and continued releasing successful albums. Many of his albums reached the top spot of the US Jazz albums chart. His works have been recognized by seven Grammy Awards in such nominations like Best Jazz Vocal Performance, Best Album for Children, Best Male Pop Vocal Performance,, Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and some others.
