Abbado, Claudio

Italian classical conductor Claudio Abbado was born on June 26, 1933, in Milan, Italy. His father, Michelangelo Abbado, was famous violinist and composer. And exactly Michelangelo Abbado became his first piano teacher. He came to prominence in the late 1950s when he won the international Koussevitsky competition. He continued the success and several years later won the Dmitri Mitropoulos Competition. In 1960, he debuted at La Scala, in Milan. In 1965, he conducted the Vienna Philharmonic. From 1986 to 1991, he served as music director for the Vienna State Opera. He also conducted the London Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra among others. During his career, he received many awards and recognitions such as the Imperial Prize of Japan, Mahler Medal, Bundesverdienstkreuz and Khytera Prize.
